Team Brunel keep Dutch fans up late for arrival into The Hague
Veteran skipper Bekking, 51, will be disappointed he could not cheer his fans by leading the fleet into the famous port but the consolation is that there are no points on offer at this stage, halfway through the ninth leg from Lorient, France, to Gothenburg.
Team Brunel are currently in second place overall but are only two points clear of Dongfeng Race Team (China), who arrived second behind Team Alvimedica (Turkey/USA) into The Hague.
MAPFRE (Spain), in fourth overall, took third position into the famous old harbour with Team Vestas Wind (Denmark) and Team SCA (Sweden) still scrapping for sixth place behind Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing at 0415 local time.
The boats will leave The Hague on Saturday at midday local time/1000 UTC before finishing the last leg to Gothenburg, Sweden, some 480 nautical miles away.
